I love writing. Writing gets me off. It inspires me, it calls me, it compels me.
My blog crush is REVOLUTION IS NOT A DINNER PARTY. The way she writes just blows me away. Here’s some examples.
Then, there’s the whole issue of what to do once you are married. Do you sit in silence and stare absent-mindedly at the same person for the rest of your natural life? I think my generation is particularly lost on this issue. Marriage, as a structure, may provide support in the context of childrearing, but other than that, why bother? I understand the practical elements of insurance, retirement planning ect… but for a girl like me, with my own insurance, my own retirement accounts, financial acumen and the skills to make a decent living for myself, what is the point?
For me, marriage as an institution was irrelevant from day one. I never wanted to put my well-being (financial, or otherwise) in the mercy of another’s hand. It seems foolish and most of all, boring.
Although Bob and Shelia, I’m sure, have enjoyed their 70 years together, it’s not to say everyone else would. I’d probably suffocate slowly, dying just a little each day as my independence was stripped from me, moment by moment.

Guiliani, once a lame duck mayor, saw his popularity catapult after the events of 9/11. While George Bush was hiding in a bunker on September 11th, Guiliani appeared on the news as both a confident and comforting presence which the American people desperately need at that time.
However, what America needs now is way out of a horrendous war started on the premise of a lie. Guiliani rides the wave of his “perceived 9/11 heroism” and continues to support the Bush agenda. This is just more of the same shit. I cannot see how another “iron-fisted” war-happy aggressive personality would benefit our country.
So Guiliani is pro-choice and socially moderate, I’m willing to give him that. But, so is Senator Obama, PLUS he understands how this ill-conceived war is affecting America and is taking action to put a stop to it. And that’s a dude I wouldn’t mind voting for.”

“If I could re-do the D.A.R.E. speech I gave in 5th grade, I would’ve included some of things above. And I would’ve ended with, “Fellow classmates, some of us will experiment, some of us will become addicts, and some of us will never touch a drug in during our life span, but all of us, at some point, will experience the need to reunite with the divine, let’s not fuck it up by forgetting where we came from.”
I’ve never met her in person and I don’t even know what her face looks like… but I know what her words look like, and they are music to my ears.
I’m thinking she should impregnate me; I want to have her love child.
I also enjoy Renegade Evolution
“I prefer the Spartan feeling…because that’s about fighting, not just being a body. You may die, and it may be futile in they eyes of some, but at least you did something. Your own way. Without support. In a way no one else approves of. Because. It’s what you do.”
Fuck… words are so hot.
Who are your blog crushes?
I’m sorry I haven’t updated this bitch in a while, life’s kinda got in the way. I’ve got a lot going on right now, and I’m trying to tread water just to keep up.
1. NTAC - I was voted on to the board of the National Transgender Advocacy Coalition and I’ve been busy putting the web site together for it. I feel overwhelmed, under skilled, and blissfully happy about doing it all at once. I’m amazed at how much web work that I’m getting, and how people are really starting to appreciate what I do.
2. Blogging - Um..wow… have I been blogging a lot. My fingers and mind feel ablaze with the fire to write. It’s almost been a euphoric feeling lately, and the more I do it, the more I want to.
3. Meds - I’m SO glad I’ve gotten back on schedule with my meds (especially my injectable estrogen). I feel so much better and I’ve stopped gaining weight and am losing again.
4. Moving - I’m moving, so I can be closer to Nik’s Aunt. I’m gonna miss my apartment in Beech Grove, but this is gonna be better for Nik. He needs as much family around as possible, IMO. You can see the new apartment here:

5. The Horror - NIK IS DRIVING! Ackkkkkkkkkk! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
He’s actually doing pretty well, considering he’s never drove a stick before. We went and got his drivers license temp permit, and he opened his first checking account today with his first tax check. I FEEL SO OLD!
cause I am…
6. A friend of mine has been really generous and ask me to join her and her family on the Rosie cruise. I’m SO looking forward to it.
*sqeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*
I think that’s about it. Life is speeding by so fast, I’m really grateful for the time I have, and who I have in my life.
Well, you said it yourself, Tim. It’s been four years since American has been attacked by these terrorists. We seem to forget that we are at war, and when you’re at war, you’ve got to fight that war to win rather than fight the war for political posturing. We have been fighting that war. Sure, it–it’s been tough. We’ve had to write a complete new war manual on how to fight terrorists that want to kill women and children. If you compared that note to, say, the Vietnam war in the same period of time, you’re talking about much more in casualties and, and relative spending. - Former Speaker of the House, Tom Delay speaking this weekend on Meet The Press
I think Tom DeLay will go to the grave spouting this rhetoric.

I hope that no one buys this crap anymore.
I recently came across a yoga instructor that’s on a friends networking list that I belong to. I jumped at the chance to ask her some questions. She was very kind and quick to respond. My follow up suprised even me. I said:
“It’s a strange path I’m on, for sure. As I look at the sand beneath my feet I only see a few other footprints intersecting with mine. I consider myself spiritual, but I’m an atheist.
I’m not really concerned with money as much as I am concerned with intimacy. I’ll give you an example. I once sat in on an aerobics class at the local YMCA. It reminded me of something off of Seinfeld. I could barely keep up and the seemingly repetitive motions would cause me to go into fits. I couldn’t wait to get out of there, without making a scene.
I’m trans, so I’ve always had a discomfort with my body. I’ve always felt like a “klutz.” I’m not sure the two are related, but they’ve always seemed to go together. An example: I love to dance. But there are very few times I dance in public. I feel such a phobia about people seeing me, I guess. Seeing my clumsiness. Seeing me.
So, with that being said, I don’t know what the hell I’m looking for. Safety? The idea of being in a space with other people seeing my awkwardness scares the hell out of me. It always has. But I’ll never make it past this if I don’t try, if I don’t at least look changing it.
Growth. Such a wonderfully scary thing to do. But growth is life.”
Reading google alerts, i found this post at secretcorners.net. Kimberly Haizlip said:
“I could understand if the women were unskilled that it might be difficult for them to find employment, but why are companies turning away highly skilled trans-women? It can’t be solely based on the fact that they transitioned from one sex to another. From a bottom-line point of view, it just doesn’t make sense to turn away highly skilled candidates that could improve the profit margin. After all, that is what the story is about, making money.”
If that were true, there would be no discrimination in the workplace. Sex, race, or otherwise, there would be no discrimination.
“Too many trans-persons think the magic bullet is going to be a slew of anti-discrimination legislation and that when they are passed all the trans-people are going to be working at decent paying jobs. I hate to burst the bubble, but I doubt if some law is going to make a lot of difference. The UK has anti-discrimination laws in place, but a google will show you that discrimination is still happening. It probably isn’t happening anywhere near the pace it is in the US, but it is happening.”
Who thinks it’s the magic bullet? It’s not the total answer, but it IS a start. It’s a foundation. African Americans aren’t discriminated against as much, and as openly as they once were. The reason? The Civil Rights Act of 1964. It didn’t end discrimination, but it did make it harder to fire somone because of their race, and that caused it to be less acceptable.
“The biggest thing that can be done to help trans-people gain decent paying jobs is to change the mindset of the employers. We need to convince corporations that trans-people are a good investment. The bottom-line approach again. Forget the “it’s the right thing to do.”
This is a circular argument that’s built on a false premise. I’ve been denied 16 job transfers and I was qualified for every one. Some of the positions I was OVER QUALIFIED for, but I didn’t get the job! What are you going to do, go to the employers and say ” DON’T DO THAT!” Good luck with that. If you don’t have any legislation backing you up, you don’t have any leverage.
Corporations use to think that hiring Blacks for any job except menial labour was not good for business. It is hard to think that corporations really thought the colour of one’s skin determined what jobs they were suited to perform, but it did exist.
And the reason that changed was the EEOC and the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This argues against your point. It wasn’t because someone went to these companies and said “hire blacks because it’s the right thing to do!”
I really wish the big Trans icons would focus their energies on the corporations. I have actually argued this point with a few of the icons to no avail. It isn’t as glamourous as jetting off to conventions and Washington, DC. Going door to door to show corporations that it is good for business to hire trans-persons is not going to place them in the lime light.
My don’t we have a huge ego! It couldn’t be that she’s wrong, oh no…. If we just go to these companies, they’ll have an epiphany, and treat trans people with respect and dignity. Most of us don’t “JET” anywhere, but drive.
I have heard these Trans icons actually turn down positions in companies if they couldn’t have the time to attend all the conventions and conferences. They hid it behind the excuse of needing to be there for the community. In reality, they can’t bear the thought of giving up being in the centre of attention.
She heard this where? Sounds like she heard it third person. That’s called a rumor.
If they really want to be the centre of my attention, they will stop wasting all of the money throw at the airlines, the hotels, the conventions and conferences, and will use that money to start working toward getting jobs for the trans-community. That is the real effort we need. I would love to open the newspaper one morning and read of a transgender job fair.
If she knew her ass from a whole in the ground, she’d know that there are already transgender job fairs in San Francisco. She’d know that many of us do advocate with corporations.
I have one thing to say to Kim. Stop trying to tell the community what to do and get off your ass and do it yourself. Want a job fair? SPONSOR ONE. Want to advocate to employers? DO IT TOMORROW!
Until your action follows your words, you have absolutely ZERO credibility with me.

Damn Gays… gay marriage hits the US and what site pops up?
I love this, in an embarrassing, no shit, acknowledgment kinda way.

Hillary Clinton gave a speech before the board of Human Rights Campaign. Now, this is an unabashadly gay, lesbian, and transgender equal rights group. As such, I doubt they care much for conservatives, for the most part ( ever notice how very liberal babes are usually kind of ugly? - Moonage Political Webdream ).
Ever notice when conservative bloggers can’t make a strong argument, they attack a woman’s looks?
My theory is that they wake up each morning and look down to see this:

And who’s the sexy beast that’s made this pronouncement about all radical left women?
