Damn skippy! My criminal justice professor brought this up in class Thursday and asked "If you were an officer sworn to uphold the law, how would you react to this kind of situation?" Everyone was horrified (but me, who was horrified by their reaction), and said they'd just look the other way because "we all have a right to pray whenever we want!" I said I'd arrest them all.

Dear Ms. Abernathy,

I just saw this article and feel compelled to responde to the statement "Edward Szynaka, was fired in April of 2003, he was criticized for his lack of leadership ability, rapport with board members, and community relations." That is absolutly a lie. My termination occured because four library board members were acting unethically and I challanged them. Example: Mark Bowell, the Library Board member who made the motion for my dismissel was ultimatly convicted of a felony offence involving working for the construction firm, Turner Construction, who was building the Central Library. Mr. Steve Nelson the Library Board President who demanded the hiring of his personal attorney as bond council for our building projects. Mr. Nelson was removed from the Library Board the day after my termination. He should have been charged with other serious ethical felony charges. The other two Library Board members who voted for my termination were removed within one month of my termination because there were grand jury charges pending regarding their behaviour. The quote you use comes from Mr. Bowell and was made after my termination WITHOUT CAUSE and with a severance payment. Mr. Bowell understandably did not like my challanging his working with Turner to fix bids and increase their income. So by posting Mr. Bowell's quote and it's listing on the internet TOTALLY misrepresents my accomplishments at IMCPL and is libel in the most hurtful way. If you read the full coverage in the Star News you would know that what you have posted about me is untrue. I was a whistleblower who did the right thing and paid the price with my job but I DO NOT NEED TO SUFFER THE HACK POSTING BY YOU OF LIES. Passing on a lie is as bad as passing on a illness. I DEMAND A RETRACTION.

:) Thanks. You're very welcome.

The cool thing about StoryCorps is that these recordings will be around long after I'm dead. I'm leaving a gift to my children's children, as they are now property of the national archives (i think?). I plan on doing another interview with my best friend as soon as I can. She's such a beautiful person, I want people to know of her, and her life.

I know, I'm really late to the party, then again I've not been doing much with blogs, blogging and so on for a bit. I just wanted to say this was awesome Marti. It let me get to know you better, and your awesome Son. It took courage for both of you to do something so intimate, so close, that the entire world could share in. I've got to say, good for you! Plus you've inspired me some, I'm already looking at Story Corps to see what my options are, and I'm thinking I'm going to start using their question base to start creating podcasts from. This has a deep "Our stories, Ourselves" flavor to it that I like without it being this (for me at least) unsupportable all trans all the time channel.

So I thought I'd say thanks for sharing this with all of us, and thanks for inspiring me!
