Like So Much Of My Life…

I keep looking back and reexamining different aspects of my life. Recently, that introspection has been on my choice of music. I’ve noticed lately that either I’m growing senile, or my music snobishness has subsided a bit with age. Bands that I passed over, for one reason or another, I’m discovering that I LOVE. They include:

Ian Anderson - Jethro Tull

Jethro Tull – I have to admit, I started digging them after I saw them perform on “The Rolling Stones Rock And Roll Circus.” Ian Anderson looked like a damn redneck hillbilly in it, which intruiged the hell out of me. I found him very captivating and sexy. It caused me to really listen to their music, instead of rejecting it because it was from “that hippie sixties” era. As I’ve grown older I see less of a division in the generations and look for the commonality. I feel like I’ve been digging through the trash heap of my musical taste past and am finding small gold nuggets. All because I thought Ian Anderson was hot… how shallow does that make me?

311

311

Amazing how different this band can sound on different tracks. Most of their songs I’ve heard, I just didn’t realize it was 311.

Blue October

Blue October

Hell, how do I explain their sound? To me, it sounds like mixture of The Outfield meets Bare Naked Ladies. Every song has a totally different texture to it which makes them even harder to pin down. Regardless, I dig them!

The Eurythmics

The Eurythmics

This one should have been a big DUH! for me. I really wasn’t a fan of the Eurythmics when they were popular. Again, I think it was partly due to aethetics. In Eurythmics videos of Annie Lennox was made to look like Devo meets Drag Queen. When Annie Lennox put out her first solo record, “Diva”, I was hooked. It’s made me go back and reexamine The Eurythmics entire catalogue.

Janis Joplin

Janis Joplin

Another sixties area artist that I completely avoided due to the “hippie” factor. She has one of the most playfully soulful voices I’ve ever heard.

Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal

Until I watched him on the “The Rolling Stones Rock And Roll Circus,” I’d never heard of him. If you like the blues, I’m guessing you’ll like Taj Mahal. If you like good music, I’m guessing you’ll like Taj Mahal. If you like soulful music… you get the picture.

Some others I’m freakin on right now are Imogen Heap, Jack Johnson, Norah Jones, and Josh Groban. If you have any artists that you think I might like, put it in the comments!
